Ceiling Fan Buying Tips Ceiling fans have been around for a very long time, the fan we all know being well over 150 years old; however, they are becoming a lot more common these days. With the multitude of shapes, sizes, colors and feature options now on the market, deciding on what type of ceiling fan to purchase can be a headache. It really does not need to be this way. These exotic fan features have all been produced to fit a variety of peoples needs and wants, and a lot of them were also designed to make installing a ceiling fan a lot easier. Here are some things you should do before you actually go out and purchase your ceiling fan. Pull out the tape measure: You will need to know the size of the room before you buy your ceiling fan. This will let you know what type of fan that you will need to buy. Rooms that are around 100 square feet, you will most likley be looking at a 36" fans. A 42" fan for rooms that are even larger then that. If you need a ceiling fan for rooms over 144 square feet, you will be looking at 44" and 48" ceiling fans. There are even larger fans then that for larger rooms. The biggest ceiling fans are 60" wide. A fan like this is able to cover rooms of up to 625 square feet! Now thats a big fan! Will the fan be indoors or outdoors? Outdoor fans are pretty hard to come by, but there are some available on the market. These types of fans are designed with the high temperatures, low temperatures, dirt, dryness and humidity of outdoor conditions in mind. That is why an indoor fan should NEVER be installed in outdoor conditions. Make sure you purchase the right fan for the right conditions. Some fan manufacturers have lifetime warranties on both indoor and outdoor ceiling fans. Whats your style? You know what your style is. Ceiling fan styles are usually grouped into Hippie, Standard, Modern, Futuristic and Abstract. The most Hippie design available today on the market is the Hunter 1886 styles. Lots of ceiling fan designs will resemble the very first ceiling fans ever to come out- the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, and look either Hippie or Standard depending on where the ceiling fan is installed. Five blade fans are Modern, and three-blade fans are more on the Futuristic side. What are Abstract fans? The Football Fan is just one of those. Lighting? Most of the ceiling fans available today will allow you to add lighting to it if you would like. Actually, a lot of fans will come with the lighting kits as part of the purchase. If light is needed in the very core of your setting, in addition to the fan, you can choose to buy the fan and lighting kits separately or as one whole package. If you buy them separately, its best to match manufacturers so you know that they will both fit each other. Powering the ceiling fan: Before recently, to control your ceiling fan and the lighting on that fan from a switch, you needed a three-conductor wire in between the switch and the wall. Now some fan manufacturers make controls that will allow you to wire up with your existing two-conductor wires. And even more, pretty much all fan-and-light combinations on the market can be packaged with a remote control that only needs two wires at the ceiling box to give it power. Support for the ceiling fan: This one of the most important aspects to installing your ceiling fan. A full assembly fan weighs alot. Actually, even the small ones weigh alot. Fans also move; a ceiling fan could not be mounted on a standard lighting fixture. It will most likely tumble to the floor. Most ceiling fan manufacturers have standard instructions packaged for mounting the fan to a certain type of mounting item above the junction item. This will be your best bet, but another option is installing a special fan box, either on the mounting or latched to it. To cool or not to cool? Most people think of ceiling fans as a device to keep a place colder. This is the most common use, but they are just as useful for keeping a room warm when it is cold outside during those winter months. Make sure you purchase a fan that will blow in the downwards direction during warm weather and upwards in cold weather. Blowing upwards will cause the warmest air in the setting up and out, to come back down along the sides of the room. It will definitely make the floor a lot warmer, and you will notice this

Installing a Ceiling Fan Installing a ceiling fan can seem like a daunting task; however, you will find that if all the wiring is in place, installing a ceiling fan should be quite easy. Below you will find some important information in regards to installing a ceiling fan. Before getting started there are some items you may want to take into consideration. The size and style of the fan you choose will be very important with respect to installing a ceiling fan. In order to choose the correct fan, youll need to know the size of the room, as well as the type of ceiling you have. Some people have vaulted ceilings which can make it difficult for installing a ceiling fan of a larger size. It will also make it difficult to position the fan properly if your ceiling is vaulted. Once you have selected the correct type of fan for your ceiling, it will be time to get started. With this tutorial of installing a ceiling fan, if youve never installed a lighting fixture before, youll want to pay close attention to the instructions listed below. Installing a Ceiling Fan Pre-Installation: 1. Turn off the power - This is probably the most important step when it comes to removing or installing electrical fixtures. It will be important that you follow this procedure as closely as possible. Do not just turn off the light switch that controls the light. You will want to turn off the breaker that controls the light in the room you plan on installing a ceiling fan. 2. Removing the old light fixture - This process should be done in the middle of the day so you can open your blinds or window shades in order to allow for enough light. Depending on the type of fixture youre going to remove, its a matter of disassembling your old fixture and removing it from the light electrical box. 3. Disconnecting the wires - You want to make sure that you disconnect the wires from the old assembly, but make sure you marked each wire as to its proper location. This will make it easier when installing a ceiling fan. 4. Inspect the old electrical box - Make sure the electrical box that is currently installed can handle the fan weight and is mounted to either a truss, or a cross brace. This will ensure that when you install your new fan that it will have a proper foundation in order to work properly. If for some reason your electrical box is not mounted properly, it will be important for you to get the correct electrical box and mounting brace. When installing a ceiling fan weight will be an important factor, choose wisely. Installing a Ceiling Fan Installation: Before getting started on installing a ceiling fan, make sure you read through the directions that come with your new fan. You will be surprised at how easily you will recall this information during the installation process. Make sure you have everything laid out in a way that you can select each item as you move along. 5. Installing a ceiling fan mounting bracket - The first thing you want to do is install the new mounting bracket onto the electrical box. This mounting bracket is what will actually hold the new fan. 6. Use the working hook - Because of the weight of a ceiling fan motor, the manufactures are well aware that you cant hold the ceiling fan motor in one hand and secure the wiring with the other. So theyve made something thats called a "working hook", which allows you to hang the fan motor on the hook while you are assembling the wiring. 7. Matching and securing the wires - In the step you will secure the wiring using the proper color codes. In the US, the white wire will be the neutral, the black wire will be a hot or (power leg) and the copper or green wire will be the ground. Sometimes well see a red wire which is considered a loop depending on how many light switches control a single light. Typically when you see this wire you have multiple light switches within one configuration. Just make sure to follow the wiring exactly as you remove the old fixture and you shouldnt have a problem. 8. Secure the fan motor - Its time to secure the fan motor to the fan mounting bracket. You want to push all the wiring inside the electrical box, and then secure the fan motor to the mounting bracket with the mounting bolts that have been supplied. 9. Install fan blades - After mounting the fan motor and putting on the cover, it will be time to install the fan blades. One by one attach each blade and secure with the accompanying hardware. Make sure that each fan blade is installed properly because you do not want your fan to be unbalanced. 10. Check your work - Once youve completed the installation, its time to turn our back on to check your work. Make sure that your light switch is turned off, and go out and turn your break your back on, and when you return to the room turn your light switch on and make sure your fan works properly as well as your lights. Installing a ceiling fan is not as difficult as one may think. The biggest intimidation is when a person thinks about working with electricity. As long as your electricity is off, its a matter of disassembling the current fixture and replacing it with a fan of your choice. Follow these steps closely and you will see that once your ceiling fan has been installed, youll be able to enjoy the new cool breeze, as well as the fact that you performed the installation.

Hugger Ceiling Fans Review Ceiling fans are very important for all classes. These are widely used and help us to have relaxed sleep even in summers. Simple ceiling fan has a long rod that is used to connect the fan motor to the base which is then affixed to the ceiling. For a normal ceiling fan you need a high ceiling to carry it. So nowadays a new kind of ceiling fan has come in the market called hugger ceiling fans. These fans are quite different from other ceiling fans because they have no metal rod and are connected very closely to the ceiling. Thus, the blades of hugger fans are very close to the ceiling than in any other ceiling fans. These fans are called hugger because they hug the ceiling like no other. It also comes with the option of short metal rod. So this kind of fans can be easily installed in shorter height ceiling as well. These ceiling fans are quite popular in offices where the height of ceiling is usually shorter. Hugger fans were basically designed for low ceiling but now a day they are used everywhere. They are designed in such a manner that their blades remain away from the floor as they possibly can be and give them more clearance. But because of this design the air circulation is impeded which is one of the major disadvantage of this kind of fans. Also they are not as efficient and effective as other fans are because the blades of hugger ceiling fans are very close to the ceiling. These hugger fans are mostly used where ceiling height is only 8 feet and this height further increases if your furniture height like bed and sofa is also more than regular basis. As there is lot of competition in every field which results in great technology advancement, ceiling fan industry has also developed a number of product. So, there are various styles and designs available in the market for hugger ceiling fans. This has also resulted in decrease in the rate of fans and companies are offering huge discounts. Some of the models like Emerson Florissant, Modern Fan Cirrus Hugger, Minka Aire Concept II 52 Wet and Fanimation Loreto Bay are very attractive because they come up with blades and optional light. So it adds charm to your ceilings. They also come in smaller blades, larger blades, best airflow and least airflow, with light and without light options. Installation of normal ceiling fan is easy but installation of hugger ceiling fans is quite different. There are some instructions for installing hugger fans like while installing pull all the wires straight down and pass them from the opened punched box and then carefully hang the fan motor assembly on the hook of the ceiling. Always connect the wires of hugger fans with properly sized wire nuts. Place a good lock washer and then carefully assemble each blade and then install light bulb if using a light kit. So, go for Hugger fan, if you really want to have a good sleep.
